Reviews:
  • Arador
Definitely his best work! Amazing album!
  • Kerry
Classic! Should be in every altcountry collection. Still wondering why he isn't getting more attention.
  • Gavinranadar
Disappointing! After listening to vintage Clark, I was expecting something mellow, something that has come along with this artist in his late summer. He sounds as if he never quite "hears" the song/sound that he is looking for. For example, "Rita Ballou" and "LA Freeway" sound like the same tune played at different tempos witha different background colour. The liner notes read like a who's who of Nashville talent, a big come-on. But if the cake is poorly baked, all the frosting in the world is not going to make it edible. Sorry Guy, of all the records I've bought of yours (including 20 cents for "The Incredible Expedition of Dillard and Clark" in a flea market,a record I treasure), "Old No 1" should have been "Old No No One" Next time, some dynamite weed (and Doug Dillard) may help. I think you have Gene Clark and Guy Clark mixed up
  • Justie
I'm thinking that your disappointment stems from the fact that you were expecting to hear a Gene Clark album here.
  • Der Bat
Rob, Dillard & Clark was Gene Clark not Guy Clark.
  • Opimath
Oops, think you have Guy Clark confused with Gene Clark (who was a member of the Byrds and recorded with Doug Dillard)! You won't find '60's California country-rock here, Guy Clark is pure Texas outlaw honky-tonk (by way of Nashville). This was actually his first record, released when he was in his early '30's, and a fine debut. Guy Clark gets mixed reactions, some don't care for him, some love him. There are more mature, easygoing Guy Clark records to be found in his later catalog, particularly Cold Dog Soup. But among its other merits, this record contains the classic Desperadoes Waiting For a Train which is a major accomplishment in itself.
